This position is assigned to the school based team to provide extra support for primarily one student.<p>Working under the supervision of the Principal/Vice Principal, and under the general direction of a teacher, the Education Assistant will work directly with students to assist with social, emotional, behavioural, physical and academic needs.<p>This is position includes supervision of students in non-classroom times such as before school, recess, lunch period, and/or after school.<p> Food safe course completion would be an asset.<p> <p><p><p><p>This is posting is a result of a significant change to position.<p> <p><p><p><p> <p><p><p>Must be comfortable providing academic support for all grade levels, in a variety of subject areas.<p> Must also be comfortable providing support both in the classroom and virtually via Zoom or Google Meets.<p> <p><p>LIF to be added to hours for the year.<p><p> <p><p>Responsibilities will vary and may include the following: <p><p> - facilitating student learning individually or in small groups<p><p> - documenting daily progress and assisting in the collection of data for the purpose of evaluating student progress<p><p> - supporting students in learning social behaviour or life skills<p><p> - supporting students who have intense, aggressive/non-compliant behaviour through the guiding principles of positive behaviour support<p><p> - carrying out personal and health care routines i.e. assisting in the student's personal care such as feeding, dressing, toiletting, physical support and lifting<p><p> - supporting learning and skill development activities in worksite and community based settings<p><p> - providing information to teachers for home/school, formal/informal communications while maintaining confidentiality<p><p> - monitoring and assisting students during unstructured time such as recess, lunch hour, before and after school periods and between classes<p><p> - attending meetings as part of the school based team<p><p> - using a wide range of equipment including adaptive technology, augmentative communication devices and computer software<p><p> - demonstrating a positive and respectful working relationship as part of a collaborative team<p><p><p>Required Qualifications: <p>College of the Rockies SPEDA Course; Selkirk College Classroom and Community Support Worker (CCSW) Program and/or equivalent college program or minimum of one (1) year college level training in the Human Services field with a focus on training in behaviour management and students with special needs.<p>Demonstrated evidence of a successful practicum completion is required.<p><p> <p><p>Preferred Qualifications (training will be provided as required): <p>· current autism training (e.g. POPARD Level 1 or equivalent) **<p><p>· non-violent crisis intervention training(e.g. MANDT)<p><p> <p><p>**If you are currently employed as an Education Assistant in School District #8, opportunities to access autism training will be provided during non-instructional time.<p><p>For further clarification refer to:<p>Roles and Responsibilities of Teachers and Teacher Assistants/Education Assistants:<p>(BCTF/CUPEJoint Paper) http:<p>//www.bctf.ca/uploadedFiles/Public/Issues/InclusiveEd/RolesandResponsibilitiesTeachersTAs.pdf<p><p> <p><p>SD8 EDUCATION ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION: <p> <p>Job Summary: <p>The incumbent is assigned to the school based team to provide specialized support for students with identified special needs as directed by the Principal.<p>Must be flexible in assignments.<p>It is expected that all employees will follow district communication protocols and maintain confidentiality.<p>The ability to communicate and work as a team player is essential.<p><p>Job Requirements: <p>1.<p>College of the Rockies SPEDA course; Selkirk College Classroom and Community Support Worker Program and/or equivalent College Program recognized by other School Districts in the Province, or a minimum of one (1) year college level training in the Human Services fi
