SCHOOL AND FAMILY CONSULTANT2024/2025This is a 1.0 FTE Continuing position, effective September 1, 2024. The focus of the School and Family Consultant is to help teachers and parents with strategies to support students presenting school behavioral concerns and to promote the emotional and social well-being of these students.This is an itinerant district position with primary responsibility for schools in Kamloops and surrounding communities. Direct service to students and consultative service to staff, parents and administrators is provided in different schools and across a variety of settings. Effective liaison with parents, teachers, administrators, health care professionals and outside agencies is a critical aspect of this position. Travel within the district is required.This is a position of Special Responsibility and will be filled by competition.Responsibilities of the School and Family Consultant include:District Critical Incident response as neededAbility to provide counselling support in both the elementary and secondary schools where a critical incident has occurred (e.g. a death in the school or in the family)Available to support schools in completing Suicide Risk Assessments, preparing SRSIS Interim Safety Plans and doing follow up with Child and Youth Mental Health and parentsAssist school teams in the completion of Safer Schools Protocols in preparation of school and community response plansVerifying the accuracy of behavior classifications for funding purposes of students in grades K-12 in Categories R and H (students with Moderate or Intensive Behavior Intervention/Serious Mental Illness); list and delist students on the student information system as requiredAdvocate for students and families and provide short sessions of counselling as neededAssist school staff and/or school based teams in understanding assessments, identification, documentation and management strategies applicable to students in Moderate to Intensive Behavior Intervention/Serious Mental IllnessWork collaboratively in schools with staff/school based teams to develop classroom based behavior and management plans for students identified with Moderate or Intensive Behavior Intervention/Serious Mental IllnessAttend External School Based Team meetingsParticipate in District Screening meetings and Case Conferences as neededEnsure that inter-ministerial and inter-agency connections are maintained as they relate to children with social emotional or mental health issues; participate in Integrated Case Management with community service providersHave an understanding of Psychological first aid (listen, protect, connect)Provide leadership in establishing and maintaining a variety of district-wide in-service and professional development opportunitiesMaintain a library of counselling resourcesAdvise the District Principal Inclusive Education with respect to behavior issues district-wideSupport the delivery of programming (e.g. Worry Dragons) in schoolsQualifications:A Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology or equivalentA record of outstanding teaching performance in the regular classroomSignificant training and/or experience in working with severe behaviour studentsDemonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with other teachers, parents, support staff, administration and outside agenciesValid BC Drivers LicenseBC Teachers certificateDeadline: Wednesday, May 15, 2024 @ 12PMLetters of application complete with resumes and the names of at least three references must be submitted to:John Wiedrick, Associate Superintendent - Human Resources School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson)1383 9th Avenue, Kamloops, BC V2C 3X7 Phone (250) 374-0679 or Fax (250) 372-1183 Email: edservices@sd73.bc.ca School District No. 73 is an<p>equal opportunity employer.
