Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work setting: Dental practice. Tasks: Consult with dentists on patient care. Take dental impressions. Instruct patients regarding oral hygiene. Clean and stimulate the gums to prevent gum disease. Apply fluoride treatment. Remove stains and deposits from teeth. Take, develop and mount X-rays. Diagnose type and severity of diseases. Perform restorative and orthodontic procedures under the direction of a dentist. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Dental Hygienists Licensure by the appropriate provincial or territorial governing body. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Repetitive tasks. Fast-paced environment. Hand-eye co-ordination. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Attention to detail. Sitting.
