Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work site environment: Noisy. Hot. Work setting: Restaurant. Ranks of chefs: Sous-chef. Tasks: Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items. Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory. Analyze operating costs and other data. Supervise activities of specialist chefs, chefs, cooks and other kitchen workers. Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation of food. Prepare and cook complete meals and specialty foods for events such as banquets. Prepare and cook food on a regular basis, or for special guests or functions. Prepare and cook meals or specialty foods. Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards. Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances. Supervision: 5-10 people. Cuisine specialties: Canadian. International. Food specialties: Fish and seafood. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Assists with immediate settlement needs of newcomers and/or refugees (for example: housing, transportation, storage, childcare, winter clothing, etc.). Supports social and labour market integration of newcomers and/or refugees (for example: facilitating access to community resources, language training, skills training, etc.). Support for mature workers: Participates in a government or community program or initiative that supports mature workers . Provides staff with awareness training to create a welcoming work environment for mature workers . Offers mentorship, coaching and/or networking opportunities for mature workers . Supports for visible minorities: Participates in a government or community program or initiative that supports members of visible minorities. Applies hiring policies that discourage discrimination against members of visible minorities (for example: anonymizing the hiring process, etc.). Offers mentorship programs that pair members of visible minorities with experienced employees.
