Education: College/CEGEP. Work setting: Dental practice. Tasks: Conduct initial dental assessments. Consult with dentists on patient care. Instruct patients regarding oral hygiene. Clean and stimulate the gums to prevent gum disease. Apply fluoride treatment. Remove stains and deposits from teeth. Take, develop and mount X-rays. Diagnose type and severity of diseases. Order supplies and maintain inventory. Implement treatment plans. Examine patients' teeth, gums and surrounding tissue. Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment. Educate patients concerning oral hygiene. Plan dental health treatment. Perform other duties related to patient care and comfort. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Dental Hygienists Licensure by the appropriate provincial or territorial governing body. Security and safety: Immunization records. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Efficient interpersonal skills. Excellent oral communication. Interpersonal awareness.
