Job details
Education: College/CEGEP. Tasks: Obtain specifications for eyeglasses and contact lenses from a prescription prepared by an ophthalmologist or optometrist. Supervise or manage activities of other opticians or student opticians. Assist clients in selecting eyeglasses. Advise on use and care of contact lenses. Arrange for grinding or polishing of lenses or grind and polish lenses. Cut and edge lenses and fit lenses into frames. Adjust finished eyeglasses to fit client. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Work under pressure. Repetitive tasks. Attention to detail. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus. Dependability. Efficient interpersonal skills.
