Supervisor of Accounting - 14 month Assignment The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from qualified, team-oriented<p>individuals for the non-bargaining, temporary full-time position of Supervisor of Accounting within the<p>Business Department. The position is expected to begin on December 1, 2024.Job Summary: <p>Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Supervisor of Accounting will assist and supervise<p>all facets of the accounting function. The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the maintenance of the<p>general ledger and adherence to the Ministry of Education Uniform Code of Accounts, Generally<p>Accepted Accounting Principles and Public Service Accounting Board (PSAB) Standards. This position<p>will be the primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate the completion annual financial<p>statements, March Ministry reporting, other year end reporting and ad-hoc Ministry compliance<p>requirements. The Supervisor will assist the Manager with the preparation of the annual budget and<p>revised budget. They will ensure that appropriate internal controls exist and are operating as expected,<p>by developing and implementing Board policies and procedures, and ensuring integrity, accuracy, and<p>control of data, and monitoring various accounts. Accounting support for the Windsor Essex Student Transportation Services (WEST) consortium<p> and Employment Services programs. Maintain accounting periods, access, and customers in the accounting system (Sparkrock). Coordinate the recording and reporting of all Board tangible capital assets. Review and submission of all Ministry funding reports (Priority and Partnership Fund accounting<p> and reporting). Responsible for all aspects of tax compliance, including HST and charitable organization reporting<p> requirements. Assist the Manager of Financial Services with the preparation of the Boards annual budget and<p> revised budget. Interact with other Supervisors within the Finance Department, Superintendents, Co-ordinators,<p> Principals, Vice Principals, Managers, other supervisory staff within the Board. Develop reports for payroll, purchasing and accounts payable supervisors. Liaise with external auditors. Account research assignments. Demonstrate a commitment to and documented success in working to create a fair, inclusive, antiracist environment for all stakeholders, and to supporting diverse constituencies and populations. Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Financial Services.Qualifications: Successful completion of a University Degree or College Diploma (minimum 3 years) in Business<p> with emphasis in Accounting. A minimum of 5 years accounting experience. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, in good standing. Related supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to train, lead and motivate others. Public sector experience and knowledge of PSAB is considered an asset.
