*ENGINEERING SUPERINTENDENT*
*Swartz Bay or Horseshoe Bay*
*The Opportunity*
A strong leader and agent for change, you will be accountable for leading the shipboard engineering teams throughout BC?s coastal region. You are accountable for the management of engineering and associated requirements for designated vessels to ensure compliance with corporate standards, policies, and applicable statues and regulations.
*Responsibilities*
Reporting to the Director, Fleet Engineering, you add value and are energized by key areas of oversight such as:
* Responsible for day-to-day engineering operations of multiple vessels and engineering teams to safely, efficiently and effectively meet all operational requirements
* Ensuring vessels are fit for service by coordinating contractual work
* Forecasting and procuring spares and materials, guiding, mentoring and developing Senior Chief Engineers in all aspects of shipboard engineering management
* Developing and preparing ships? maintenance and refit budgets for submission to the Director, Fleet Engineering, and managing budgetary and expenditure performance (both maintenance and refit) for all designated vessels
* Providing leadership in the adoption of advanced marine asset management technologies, including vessel master plans and vessel assessment plans
* Using long range planning tools such as Maximo to plan asset condition throughout the vessels life cycles
* Managing the administration of refit and dry-docking through the identification of vessel maintenance, repair and refit requirements; preparation of refit and dry-docking specifications
* Implementing and monitoring of safety programs, and ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken in response to accidents, incidents, equipment failure/damage, and service interruptions
* Attending to environmental, technical, or shipboard engineering personnel emergencies on an on-call 24-hour basis
* Participating in regional safety committees and other such committees or projects as assigned by the Director, Fleet Engineering
* Analysing and recommending improvements for the efficiency and/or economy of vessels
* Interviewing and assessing engineering staff/candidates as required, providing leadership and supervision to engineering staff, monitor individual engineering performance, ensuring engineering staff remain fully trained; and making disciplinary recommendations as required
* Developing and vetting technical reports
* Ensuring designated vessels are operated in compliance with the ISM Code and BCFS Safety Management System
* Participating in the assessment process for engineers, monitoring type-rating certificates, familiarization records and demonstrated adherence to clearance procedures
* Ensuring consistent adherence to routine maintenance schedules and standard engineering maintenance procedures; and assuring non-conformities are resolved in a timely manner
*What you bring to the team?*
*Qualification*
* Holds first class certificate as a Marine Engineer or equivalent Marine Engineering qualifications
* Completion of at least one full refit cycle as the Senior Chief Engineer or Engineer in charge of a vessel and/or vessels
* 10 years progressively responsible experience on passenger ferries or similar vessels in an Engineering role
