*EDUCATION:* ? Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing Program. SPECIAL TRAINING: ? Proficient with basic medical procedures: e.g. ear flushes, wart management, throat swabs, vaccinations, and vital signs. ? Proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as Windows Word Processing, Accuro, Manitoba Immunization Monitoring System (MIMS), and eChart. EXPERIENCE: ? Minimum three years recent clinical experience required. OTHER: ? Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. ? Commitment to care through a family centered approach. ? Advanced clinical knowledge in subspecialty. ? Commitment to maintaining current knowledge in area of expertise through reviewing literature and attending continuing education in-services, workshops, and conferences. ? Expertise and competence in interviewing, counselling, teaching and group dynamics. ? Ability to work independently but collaboratively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members. ? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with referring physicians, nurses, and community members. ? Displays initiative, accountability, good time management, decision-making ability, leadership, and strong organizational skills. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: ? Good physical and mental health. ? Moderate physical effort required. ? May be required to work flexible hours. LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS: ? Responsible for holding an active license as a RN or LPN in Manitoba. MAIN FUNCTION: (In Order of Importance): Under the general direction of the Manager of Patient Care, the incumbent functions as a pivotal member of the clinic team, enabling maximum efficiency in patient flow. The Clinic nurse utilizes advanced skills and knowledge and performs at a high level of independence as a clinical practitioner and educator. Practices are in accordance with employer policy and professional standards. The Clinic nurse prepares children prior to the physician assessment, performs minor procedures (mainly vaccinations) under the direction of the physicians, and engages in patient/caregiver education. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES OF POSITION: Pre-Clinic Care - differentiates between urgent and non urgent patient problems and makes clinical judgments as to the need for early assessment and intervention, based on program team guidelines and in consultation with Medical Director/Consultants as appropriate. - responds to urgent situations while resetting priorities (multi-tasking). - Chart review for new patients (EPR/eChart/MIMS) and entering relevant information into Accuro. Patient Assessment - Screens for conditions that may prevent immunization. - Collects vital signs and measurements (BP, O2 saturation, HR, RR, Temperature, height, weight, head circumference) as indicated, and enters into Accuro Direct Patient Care and Special Treatments - Immunization - - Blood glucose measurement - Rapid Strep testing - Urine dipstick - Ear flushing - Wart treatment Patient and Family Education 3 - collaborates with the patient, family and program team, educating the patient on their medical condition and care plan while encouraging increasing independence and accountability for self care, keeping in mind the patient?s ability to comprehend and follow through. o Asthma education and inhaler use. o Anaphylaxis education and epinephrine auto-injector use.
