People like you!This is technical mapping work in the preparation and maintenance of Municipal base, legal, and utility servicing maps, and in recording and computing related non-graphic data using computer assisted techniques and equipment. An incumbent of this class researches, compiles, analyzes and enters spatial and attribute data from legal source maps, orthophotographs, drawings and related documentation into a computer database, using a graphics work station and related equipment. Prepares and/or revises drawings and maps for a variety of engineering projects such as sewers, waterworks, subdivisions and legal surveys of varying scale for engineering, planning and assessment purpose. A Mapping Technician 2 complies and assembles spatial and attribute data from various Municipal files, charts, and similar records; prepares maps and graphic presentations of various sizes, scales and materials using available computer software or electromechanical plotter; and acts project leader on assigned mapping projects. Other responsibilities include establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; making recommendations regarding the development, alteration or refinement of computer assisted mapping methods, procedures or techniques to better meet Municipal requirements; and representing the department on various intradepartmental subcommittees involved with municipal mapping standards and procedures. Performs related work as required.Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by courses in computerized mapping at an Institute of Technology, plus considerable related Municipal mapping experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of computer assisted mapping techniques, procedures and materials and mapping principles; along with the knowledge of the departmental policies, procedures, practices, rules and regulations related to the work performed. An incumbent will have working knowledge of coordinate geometry and survey computations; the ability to research, compile, enter, analyze and assemble geographic and associated geographic-based data using an automated mapping system. Ability to operate a variety of equipment used in computerized mapping such as a keyboard and digitizer; act as a project leader on a variety of mapping projects; and to make recommendations regarding the development, alteration or refinement of computer assisted mapping methods, procedures or techniques to better meet Municipal requirements, and to prepare and revise existing computerized procedures. A Mapping Technician 2 will have the skill the use of a graphics work station and related computer equipment.
