POSITION OVERVIEW:The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a dedicated Labourer to join our team for manual maintenance and construction work of varying complexity. This role involves performing a range of skilled and semi-skilled tasks, including operating diverse equipment, driving a light truck between job sites, and assisting with functions such as pipefitting, pipelaying, and asphalt raking. The position requires working under potentially hazardous conditions and utilizing specialized skills while reporting to various supervisors. The ideal candidate will be prepared to handle after-hours emergencies, including snow clearing, and take on additional related duties as needed. If you are ready to contribute to our city's infrastructure and make a tangible impact, we encourage you to apply.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Considerable experience in civil construction and Municipal maintenance work. Some training and knowledge in the operation of small power equipment such as saws and rollers.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and materials used in civil construction and Municipal Maintenance work. Must have the ability to understand, carry-out and effectively communicate to fellow employees, oral and written instructions from a supervisor. Considerable skill in the proper and safe use of a variety of hand and power tools related to the work. Ability to keep simple records of the work performed. Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions. Ability to respond to after hours emergencies. Must show independence of judgment in the performance of duties and work with a minimum of supervision. Knowledge of and ability to operate small riding and hand mowers, small rollers, a variety of power saws, jack hammers, weed and oil sprayers, vibrators and concrete mixer and drive light duty trucks. LICENSES & CERTIFICATES:Class 5 Driver?s Licence valid in the Province of British Columbia. HOURS OF WORK:80 hours Bi-weekly - Tuesday to Saturday shifts.ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Employer and the Union agree that there is a bona fide business reason to post the Labourer vacancy with a standard workweek of Tuesday to Saturday. This schedule will be followed by two (2) consecutive days of rest, designated as Sunday and Monday. The standard workday for this position will consist of eight (8) consecutive hours, scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., excluding an unpaid one-half (1/2) hour lunch break. This is a Roads Labourer position, performing road labour tasks such as asphalt paving, concrete, brushing, litter cleaning and garbage pick up Possession of a valid B.C. Class 3 Drivers License c/w air brake endorsement or heavy equipment operation experience will provide added opportunity for advancement.
