OVERVIEW:
The Child & Youth Worker is responsible for implementing individual service plans; providing and maintaining a safe, supportive home environment that helps clients to gain a sense of belonging, mastery, independence and generosity. Clients supported within the homes may have experienced significant complex trauma which may include exposure to substances, physical and mental abuse, addiction, and so on.
The clients may present with complex high-risk behaviors that require staff to respond by applying their knowledge, skills and understanding of relevant cultural and conventional practices, trauma informed, strength based strategies. The program supports clients to explore and connect to their culture while equipping them with coping strategies to self regulate which promote empowerment and stabilization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Child & Youth Worker's responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
* Ensure clients' basic needs are met
* Complete and maintain routine / general client and program specific documentations
* Encourage and promote positive behavior modification in clients through role-modelling
* Provide all-round supervision of clients within and outside the program.
* Assist clients in their journey toward accomplishments of their set goals
* Advocate on behalf of clients as need arises
* Accompany and safely transport clients to and from school, outings, and appointments as needed.
* Assis in other duties as may be assigned by management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
* Knowledge and experience working with families and the clients that have complex high-risk behaviors
* Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
* Awareness of community resources
* Knowledge of trauma informed, person centered, strength based care.
* Ability to transfer that knowledge into practice.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Aware of and adheres to Alberta Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
* Knowledge of best practice standards of care
* Demonstrate work practices that are consistent with Agency values, goals and mission statement.
* Build and maintain a positive working relationship with clients and co-workers
* Able to maintain confidentiality.
* Demonstrate initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
* Able to work within a team environment as well as individually.
QUALIFICATION:
* Degree, Diploma , Certificate in the Human Services field or similar education and certificates (preferred).
EXPERIENCE:
* 2 years experience in the Human Services field supporting children /youth with mental health, trauma, addiction concerns (preferred).
TRAINING & DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS:
* Criminal Record Check (obtained within the last 6 months)
* Children?s Services Intervention Check (obtained within the last 6 months)
* Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C.
* Suicide Intervention.
* Self Harm Intervention.
* Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
* Medication Administration.
* Driver's Abstract.
* Valid Class 5 driver?s license.
* Personal car / car insurance ( with minimum 2million in third party liability) preferred.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual
Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 ? 40 per week
Schedule:
* 8 hour shift
* Day shift
* Evening shift
* Monday to Friday
* Night shift
* Weekends as needed
Licence/Certification:
* First Aid Certification (preferred)
