Education: Master's degree. Substance abuse/addiction counselling. Mental health counselling/counsellor. Work setting: Counselling centres. Rural area. Residential treatment centre. Rehabilitation centre and special health institution. Mental health institution, facility or clinic. Tasks: Provide therapy. Implement treatment plans. Apply psychological theory and principles regarding behaviour and mental processes. Maintain accurate records. Administer standard psychological tests for assessment. Supervision: 5-10 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification . Membership in a provincial or territorial psychological association. Registered Marriage and Family Therapist. Policy and program experience: Addiction or substance abuse. Type of treatment experience: Behaviour modification or behavioural therapy. Cognitive therapy. Crisis intervention counselling. Psychodynamic analytic therapy. Psychotherapy. Area of specialization: Drug addiction. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Work under pressure.
