Demands, duties, qualifications Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the primary purpose of this position is to provide specialized mental health and addiction services to individuals, families, and groups, providing outreach to community members in various settings. The position will include working with and coordinating services of a harm reduction team. The incumbent works within a multidisciplinary team setting, and in addition to clinical/outreach services, works with other team members to develop and deliver health promotion and other educational sessions in the community. The successful candidate will work closely with Indigenous governments within the Central Labrador Region, including Nunatsiavut Government and members of Innu Nation. The outreach counsellor will primarily work out of office space that will be provided in a community setting. Qualifications: Bachelor of Social Work preferred; other health professionals will be consideredExperience in mental health/addictions, including individual, family and group counsellingExperience working with indigenous populationsExperience in the development and delivery of education and training programsExperience and training in crisis intervention, suicide intervention and community trauma responseThe successful applicant will be required to submit a satisfactory certificate of conduct. Duties: (Included but not limited to) Provides outreach services to vulnerable members of the community and works in collaboration with the harm reduction teamWorks closely with vulnerable members of the community who experience houselessness and other societal barriers; provides support with system navigationCompletes accurate and timely clinical documentation through the Client Referral Management SystemUtilizing a community development approach, work with community agencies to identify and respond to addictions/mental health needsDevelops and facilitates linkages between regional and community-based resources and identified community mental health/addictions needsProvides consultative services to and works in cooperation with health care providers and a variety of Provincial and Federal Government Departments to provide an addictions/mental health and psychosocial components of intervention, education, and prevention programsFacilitates educational and training sessions as requiredAs a member of the Regional Mental Health & Addictions Services team, provides supports to the other members of the interdisciplinary team, which may include providing coverage and/or travelling to various parts of the region to assist with service deliveryMaintains a specialized level of knowledge and skill pertaining to adolescent addictions/mental health treatment and education /prevention programmingParticipates in service planning as part of the interdisciplinary teamParticipates in clinical supervision and continuous quality improvementWhen necessary, will carry a small clinical caseloadOther related duties as required.
