The purpose of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture is to enable a prosperous, market-driven agricultural industry through a supportive legislative framework, policies, programs, and services. Within the Ministry, the Livestock Branch provides leadership to administer programs and services that support the environmentally sustainable growth of the livestock industry. The Ministry of Agriculture is seeking a highly motivated, results-oriented, collaborative and innovative leader for a permanent position as the Director of the Emergency Response and Inspection Unit to lead efforts to support the growth strategy of the province and improve the agriculture sector’s long-term resiliency. As the Director of Emergency Response & Inspections, you will:Manage the regulatory aspects of game farms, fur farms, meat inspection, food safety and livestock traceability programs;Be responsible for the oversight of the associated legislation and policies that provide regulatory oversight to the various sectors;Lead the design and delivery of the Emergency Preparedness and Response program;Be able to lead, coach, and direct a team of talented professionals and collaborate with others;Manage stakeholder relationships that impact the livestock industry, including ministry branches, other government ministries, livestock industry associations, emergency organizations, first responders and producers; andAssist in implementing, monitoring and evaluating programs, policies and initiatives of livestock biosecurity, disease surveillance, response and mitigation efforts and strengthen initiatives on livestock emergency preparedness and response. What you will need:Excellent knowledge and understanding of the Canadian agriculture industry and issues related to regulatory frameworks, food safety and emergency preparedness and response;A proven track record of aligning the organizational values and strategic leadership to achieve organizational goals and outcomes;Proven experience as a leader holding a team of professionals accountable for their results and contributions to a high-performing organization.Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate strategically with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders; andA proven capability to identify, develop, and deliver key strategic insights, counsel, and policy with a high degree of innovation and accountability. Typically, the competencies required for this position would be obtained through an advanced degree in agriculture, veterinary medicine or an equivalent combination of education and experience with several years of experience in leadership roles. What we offer:Dynamic, challenging work for talented individuals;A competitive salary;Comprehensive benefits package, including pension;Vacation, scheduled days off (SDO) and other types of leave.
