Education: College/CEGEP. Surveying technology/surveying. or equivalent experience. Work site environment: Outdoors. Work setting: Urban area. Rural area. Various locations. Remote location. Tasks: Operate survey instruments and devices. Participate in field surveys. Keep survey information in systematic order. Assist in the calculation, analysis and computation of measurements obtained during field surveys. Assist in the preparation of detailed drawings, charts and plans. Keep records, measurements and other survey information in systematic order. Analyze latitude, longitude and angles and compute trigonometric and other calculations to plot features, contours and areas to a specific scale. Assist survey engineers or professional surveyors to develop methods and procedures for conducting field surveys. Conduct field surveys and operate survey instruments and computer equipment to measure distance, angles, elevations and contours. Determine precise geographic locations using global positioning systems (GPS) equipment. Prepare detailed drawings, charts and plans and survey notes and reports. Record measurements and other information obtained during field survey activities. Supervise and co-ordinate field survey activities. Supervision: 1 to 2 people. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Survey Technologist Trade Certificate. Certification by a provincial or territorial association. Computer and technology knowledge: Geographic Information System (GIS). Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment. AutoCAD. MS Excel. MS Windows. MS Word.
